~60,000 units that sit empty b/c the "rules" make it a nontenable proposition is nuts. I've known a few landlords here, including my neighbor who has mentioned some of the challenges of renting to people. You both bring a lot of interesting gotchas/loopholes in this area that should be remedied. I want Jake and Abdul to live in their neighborhood rather than Fluffy the "knowledge worker" (cough influencer) who is a FL resident.
Hats off to the Mrs. who refuses to live in America's basement. Good call.
Great podcast with Paula. Business Insider had an article about Austin entitled “America's capital of homebuying regret”. Austin has gotten more affordable which I was happy to see as my son moves off campus. Homeowners who bought in 22 are feeling the pain with unlucky timing.
Cities need to compete for businesses and citizens. The ones who are serious about affordability (and livability) will bring it into being. The ones who only talk about it will not.
