Rory Scovel is a writer, actor, and comedian known for playing to sold-out crowds across the country. He was the male lead in Amy Schumer’s hit movie, I Feel Pretty, and a principal character in Demetri Martin’s 2016 film, Dean. Rory has also appeared on numerous TV shows, including TBS’ Ground Floor, TruTV's Those Who Can’t, NBC’s Undateable, and ABC’s Modern Family. Additionally, he has performed on Conan nine times. His most recent comedy special, Rory Scovel Tries Stand-up for the First Time, is available on Netflix.
In our conversation, Rory and I discuss how growing up in Greenville, SC, in a large family has shaped his attitudes toward money, the entertainment industry, and his career.
Here are Rory's recommendations for books, movies, and comedy specials to enjoy during quarantine:
Books: 11/22/63 by Stephen King, and Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari
Comedy specials: anything by Maria Bamford or Nate Bargatze
Movies: Willow, Back to the Future
